Chocolate-covered blueberries found in your local grocery store are expensive and never as good as homemade ones.

If you have tried my keto chocolate-covered strawberries, this blueberry version is similar but makes scrumptious clusters instead of just covering the fruit.

How To Make Chocolate-Covered Blueberries

It’s very easy to make blueberry chocolate clusters with only 3 ingredients:

Ingredients

All you need to make this delicious snack are:

  • Fresh Blueberries – whole frozen blueberries work as well. The technique to cover frozen blueberries is a bit different, read below.
  • Dark Chocolate – I use 85% dark chocolate or sugar-free chocolate chips. Feel free to use any type of chocolate you love, including white chocolate.
  • Coconut Oil

Preparing Blueberries

First, wash the blueberries, remove any soft blueberries that would burst out in the melted chocolate, and use them for a chia seed jam or blueberry pie.

Dry the washed blueberries. The best way to do so is to lay them in a single layer on absorbent paper and wait a few hours at room temperature.

You can also rub them with more absorbent paper, but some water might be left on the blueberries.

For the best results, you need entirely dried blueberries, so it’s worth the wait.

Meanwhile, prepare a large tray or plate that fits the size of your fridge with parchment paper.

Slightly oil the paper and set the tray aside.

Melting Chocolate

In a small microwave-safe bowl, add chocolate and coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring between them, until the chocolate is fully melted and shiny.

You can also melt the chocolate in a non-stick saucepan over medium heat, constantly stirring.

The last option is to melt the chocolate using the double boiler method.

To do so, boil some water in a saucepan, remove it from the heat, and place the bowl with chocolate and coconut oil over the warm saucepan. Stir until melted.

Finally, pour the dried blueberries into the bowl of melted chocolate and gently stir to coat evenly.

Forming Clusters

Use a tablespoon to scoop some chocolate blueberry and transfer them onto the prepared baking sheet.

Repeat until the whole mixture has been used, leaving half a thumb of space between each cluster.

Refrigerate for a few hours until the chocolate hardens, or freeze them for 10 to 12 minutes to set the chocolate faster.

Storage Instructions

These chocolate clusters can be stored in a sealed container for up to 4 days in the fridge.

You can also keep them in the freezer up to one month and eat frozen chocolate-covered blueberry clusters.

Or simply thaw them for 30 minutes at room temperature to soften the berries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find below my answers to the most frequent questions about this recipe.

Can I Use Frozen blueberries?

You can, but don’t add frozen blueberry to the melted chocolate bowl, or it will form a giant cluster immediately. Frozen blueberries instantly firm up the melted chocolate, so you can’t work in large batches.

The best option is to fill a muffin tray with a paper liner, add one tablespoon of frozen blueberries in each paper liner then pour one tablespoon of melted chocolate on top.

The chocolate will set quickly and form a cluster. If not, pop the tray in the fridge for 30 minutes to firm up.

Can I Make Chocolate-Covered Blueberry Bark?

The TikTok trend is to spread chocolate-covered berries onto the tray in a large bark.

It works very well, and it’s much faster than making clusters. Refrigerate until the bark is hard and easy to break into pieces.

Instructions

  • Line a large plate or baking sheet that fits the size of your fridge with parchment paper. Slightly oil paper and set aside.
  • Clean the fresh blueberries under cold tap water. Place them in a single layer onto a paper towel, rub them, and let them air dry for a few hours. No water should be on the berries, or the chocolate won't coat them well.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, add chocolate chips and coconut oil. Microwave the bowl in 30-second bursts, stirring between each burst until the chocolate is fully melted.
  • Pour the clean, fully dry blueberries (no water should be left around the berries) onto the bowl with melted chocolate.
  • Stir to coat the blueberries with melted chocolate.
  • Use a tablespoon to scoop out chocolate-covered blueberries and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Repeat until all the mixture has been turned into clusters. Leave a thumb space between each cluster.
  • Refrigerate for 1-2 hours until the chocolate shell hardens.
  • Store for up to 3 days in an airtight box in the fridge or freeze for up to 1 month. Eat straight out of the fridge or freeze them. Thaw frozen blueberry clusters for 30 minutes at room temperature before serving.

12 Thoughts On Chocolate Covered Blueberries
  1. Dear Carine,
Would it be okay to add some nuts to stretch the recipe? If so, what kind and how much?
    Thank you in advance,
    Linda M.

    • Simply remove the same amount of blueberries as the amount of nuts you add. Make sure the nuts have a similar size as the blueberries or you may need more chocolate to cover all the ingredients. Enjoy.

  2. Good Morning Carine,
Regarding your Chocolate Covered Blueberries, if I have the Lakanto Sugar Free Monkfruit Chocolate Chips, do I still add the coconut oil? These chips are expensive, so I don’t want to waste them.
Thank you in advance & Have a Blessed Day!

    Linda M.

Hi, I made this recipe today but I used unsweetened milk chocolate (33%). I’ve just tried one and it’s so lovely 😍. When you bite into the blueberries you can taste the freshness. Will be definitely make again. Thanks so much

  4. Hi,I’m hoping to try this recipe at the weekend. Could you tell me if I can use unsweetened milk chocolate chips instead of dark chocolate. Thanks Carol

  5. This sounds great, totally making this soon. Do you think this recipe would benefit from ¼ teaspoon of salt? Either mixed in with the melted chocolate or just a small amount of flake salt on top?

I tried this recipe this morning. It was so easy to do. Your recipe is easy to follow. My family ate them all. It was all gone in an hour. They said it was not enough, so I will make a double batch. Thanks for sharing.
